Limited Brands Associates Make a Colorful Difference

March 30, 2011

Victoria’s Secret Direct (VSD), located in Kettering, Ohio, took a new approach this year to contribute to Limited Brands’ United Way campaign. With the theme “Color Me Caring,” Limited Brands associates gave fundraising a makeover and increased pledges by more than 10 percent from last year. Having the participants enjoy themselves while making a difference was this year’s goal to raise excitement and participation. The objective was simple: to enjoy the process of giving.

Many small initiatives and themes were put in place to encourage donations. Some themes included “orange you glad you made a difference” and “a little green goes a long way.” The themes became a group effort to have fun while raising money for a great cause. In addition, there were 50 leaders who participated in a variety of activities including the “craziest outfit contest.” The contest winners were selected on the most money raised by donation.
VSD also brought in local United Way agencies to “speed-date” with associates. Associates had an opportunity to interact with many organizations and reconfirm their passion to help these groups while discovering new ones.

"The United Way campaign is an opportunity for Limited Brands to really showcase our giving culture. We’re excited to be a part of something that has such a big impact on our community,” said Stefanie Little, Limited Brands associate and VSD United Way project manager.

“Color Me Caring” was a great success and resulted in receiving the Coordination of Campaign Award given by United Way of Greater Dayton.  Live United is United Way's call to action and Limited Brands associates continue to answer the call in our communities.  In 2010, our associates gave more than $8.5 million to United Way chapters in the communities where we live and work. Many of our associates give at the Leaders Circle level (ranging from .5 percent to 3 percent of their annual salaries), which are matched 100 percent by the company. All other United Way contributions are matched at 50 percent by the company.
